How To Save Money While Working From Home

Posted by Ian on December-31-2011 under Save Money

It goes without saying that working from home saves money. Working from home is also, without a doubt, less stressful than bean-counting in the office of a hundred on the 24th floor of a Manhattan skyscraper. It is more likely to be the, seemingly, less stressful environment that is the main reason for those of us with an adventurous spirit as well as ambition to take the plunge and set up an office at home. These, so-called “home-workers” however, still need to make a living and therefore are always on the lookout for ways and means to save money working in a home office. Let’s take a look at some ways to keep money in your pocket while working from home.

First of all, you’re going to save a lot of money on clothing, no longer will you have to shell out big bucks for Armani suits, Diesel belts and Coach wallets and handbags. Home office workers are able to dress as pleases; sweats, jeans, tee-shirts and even shorts, are not a problem. If you do have to attend a meeting where the “correct” attire is required, buy yourself an inexpensive suit and a pair of shoes purely for those occasions. It might also be a good idea to keep some clean, casual clothing handy for those times when a client or customer comes to your home office; you don’t want to be dressed as though you’re about to light up the barbecue.

Commutation is another saving, no more will you have to ride a packed subway, sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway or squeeze onto an already jam-packed bus, your commuting is only from one room in your home to another. Think of all the money you’ll save on public transportation and gasoline; not to mention vehicle maintenance.

People that work from a home office also save money on food. Indeed, gone are the days of standing in line at a restaurant waiting for a table and being charged an arm and a leg for a club sandwich. All you need do is walk into your home kitchen and whip up whatever you want. For those still living at home, with their parents, mom is sure to make sure that her child is eating correctly and thus will make lunch. For mothers that work out of a home office, they can save money on daycare and kindergarten fees; the only problem that may arise is keeping the kids out of your hair while you work.

If you do choose to work from an office in your home, remember the adage “time is money”. This has never been more important, don’t be distracted from your work. If you do, let distractions interfere with your job, in a few short months you’ll find yourself back in that glass tower you escaped from months earlier.

The above are just a few ways and methods of how to save money working from a home office, no doubt you can think of many more. All it really takes is some common sense and imagination. Good luck with your money-saving home office work.
