The best place to get a discount car rental is Priceline. You are sure to get highest discount if you rent a car from Priceline. Why? Because more than 100,000 rental cars go unused every day. So, car rental companies offer those cars to Priceline as discount car rentals. It is better to earn a few bucks on those cars than letting them sit idle in the parking lot.

To get a rental car at Priceline, you have to bid for its price. Here are the steps that can help you determine the best bid price, so that you do not end up bidding higher for a car:

Step 1: Find the price that other websites are offering for car rentals. I normally start with Travelocity and Orbitz to get an idea about the car rental price. After this, I head over to Hotwire to see what is the price for discount car rental that is currently being offered at Hotwire. Step 2: Find the price at which others have been able to place a successful bid for Priceline rental car. There are a few websites that provide this information. The best one that I like is This website lists the latest successful bid prices at which people have been able to get a Priceline car rental. This information is provided by the successful bidders of Priceline Car Rentals itself.

Step 3: Using the above information, find the best bid price for Priceline Car Rental. For this, here are the 3 thumb rules that I follow:

  • I subtract $2 from Hotwire car rental price. This becomes my tentative bidding amount.
  • I see that my tentative bidding amount should be almost equal to the one that other successful bidders have used, as explained in Step 2.
  • After that, I see that this tentative bidding amount has to be at least 20% lesser than the discount car rental price being offered by Travelocity/Orbitz. If that is not the case, I do not use Priceline. This is because the difference is not worth the risk, as all rental car bookings on Priceline are completely final, and cannot be changed or cancelled.

By following these steps, I am able to calculate the best price to bid for Priceline Car Rental. In case I am booking many weeks in advance, than I can take more risk, and bid more lower. If the bid is rejected, I can anyway come back the next day.

Above steps would help you in saving lots of money while bidding for Priceline rental car. If you have some other tips, please mention in comments. Click here to be notified via email when a similar article is published.
